Mediofondo do Gerês 2016

After riding almost 100km at the Dão Ecotrail we headed to Geres we threw the interior of Portugal, always with stunning scenery.
The Toyota Avensis was always rise to the occasion, and the consumption was below 6,5L / 100Km. We liked particularly the availability and elasticity of the engine winding roads in the Gerês and the overall comfort of the car that made the trip pass by almost without realizing it. We reached the Gerês already close to lunch time as said by Jusefina (nickname of the navigation system). Stop at Lindoverde where we were staying, to unload the bags and bicycles. We were greeted by the friendly Mr. Manuel that immediately told us "the house is yours."
We headed to Gerês village for lunch and pick up the participant kits. We savor an ice cream while we studied the route of the race that woul hepen the next day.
Back at the accommodation, we still had time to relax a bit in the pool which has a superb view over the valley. At dinner we could not resist a gizzards as an aperitif.
The next day, got up early and head to the village center. We started from the last box, so that after the starting of the race we had about 10 minutes standing waiting to get across the Km 0. Nothing to worry us too much because we went to this event with well-defined goals: finish the race without accidents and make the most of the idyllic setting of Gerês.
The chosen route was spectacular, although we liked especially the first 60 Kms where the landscape was more open with breathtaking views in all directions. The last Kms were the hardest, with hard climbes (which came to 17%) and challenging descents and forest surrounding the road.
Very positive note to the Gerês Granfondo organization. Much support along the road, spectacular supplies and well marked route. Faultless !!!

Time to return ... But we were willing to return and ride in Gerês. If not earlier, next year we will be back for sure.
